Objectives of this Role
This role will focus on full credit analysis and underwriting of primarily SBA 7(a) loan requests up to $5MM and may include SBA 7(a) Small Loans, SBA Express, SBA 504, and other programs. The individual hired for this role will have also have responsibilities for analyzing annual financial statements in a summary report for annual reviews of the bank’s SBA loan portfolio.
The position will be 100% remote and the candidate must be responsible and a self-starter; experience working remotely is preferable but not required. Clients include small business owners throughout the lower 48 states; therefore, spoken and written communication skills will be of high importance.
Essential Functions

  • Review SBA loan requests for credit worthiness.
  • Analysis of applicant business and tax returns, financial statements, projections, and personal financial statements and credit reports to determine stand-alone and global debt service sufficiency
  • Discuss credit worthiness of requests including questions and challenges with credit committee members
  • Formulate and present recommendations for approval or decline based on supporting arguments
  • Prepare and issue commitment letters
  • Work with closer and BDO as necessary to address credit changes or needs between loan approval and loan closing
  • Assist with portfolio management with primary responsibility for completion of annual reviews per department policies
  • Understand the client’s business environment, strategies, and industry to better determine their credit requirements, identify potential new opportunities and provide need-based solutions.
  • Actively work to support achievement of department production goals

Skills and Qualifications

  • 5+ years of credit industry experience required
  • 3+ years in SBA analysis and/or underwriting roles required
  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, business, or a related field OR equivalent industry experience
  • Advanced degree in business (MBA, Finance, Accounting) preferred but not required
  • Strong business acumen and experience-based knowledge of small business lending process.
  • Excellent analytical, technical writing, and presentation skills.
  • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Self-motivated and results-oriented
  • Ability to work well in a team environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to interact with clients in a professional manner.
  • Ability to manage and prioritize multiple complex tasks.
