Job descriptionPOSITION OBJECTIVE(S): To assist the preschool teacher in the education of students including direct instruction to students, classroom and field work, set-up and organization, interaction and communication with students, special education staff, parents/guardians, internal and external specialist and building principal, management of student behavior, and record keeping. STUDENT ASSIGNMENTS: All students enrolled in the local school districts preschool. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: include the following. Other duties may be assigned!
Planning and Preparation: Assists with the preparation and setup of the preschool environment and educational material.Assist with daily facility maintenance tasks related to the program; organize and maintain supplies, computers and equipment used in the program.Discussed assigned duties with preschool teacher in order to coordinate instructional planning. Instructional & Classroom Support: Under the direction of the preschool teacher assist in planning the daily operations of the classroom.Provides instruction to students within the preschool setting under the direction of the preschool teacher: Specifically, the preschool teaching assistant will: Assist students individually or in groups to foster growth and mastery in the Vermont Early Learning Standards being addressed.Presents learning opportunities through creativity, individual/group lessons to learning concepts presented by the preschool teacher.Models appropriate skills, behavior and techniques to children.Assists students with difficult or unusual tasks or problems.Monitors students work and collaborates with preschool teacher on students skills and challenges.Demonstrates an understanding of the responsibility, legal and ethical requirements of running a preschool under the Vermont Department of Children and Families-Preschool licensingHelps enforce and communicate rules and expectations for behavior and procedures for maintaining order among the students; monitors classroom activity at all times, determines need for intervention, resolves conflicts with preschoolers, brings unusual or difficult problems to the preschool teachers attention, implements student behavior support plans as needed.Other duties as assigned
