General Purpose and Scope of Position:

The primary function of this role is supporting strategic DOT initiatives to improve safety and regulatory compliance.

Key Skills and Abilities Include:

  • Minimum 3 years of fleet management with DOT compliance
  • Experience dealing with hazardous materials
  • Experience in providing on-line an in-person training at all levels
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office including Word and Excel and PowerPoint

  • Serve as a leader of change by implementing, communicating, and measuring safety initiatives
  • Results-oriented approach to safety compliance through effective communication and training

  • Communicate risks and areas of concern to facilities and regional management
  • Actively engage EHS and branches with training, coaching, and mentoring to correct and improve DOT fleet safety

Specific Responsibilities and Key Deliverables Include:

  • Provide input to regional management and EHS with respect to the implementation of DOT and fleet safety programs
  • Coordinate with branches and equipment purchasing department to ensure proper DOT compliance on vehicle purchases
  • Coordinate with fleet services and branch management to remediate equipment found by their department inspection to be non-compliant
  • Strategy and implementation of electronic logging devices
  • Strategy and implementation of technology for compliance in IRP & IFTA required reporting
  • Interface with the Department of Transportation agency on compliance issues and acts as a change agent for process and structural improvements
  • Oversee all training (development and implementation) to ensure compliance with DOT standards
  • Create and maintain a driver playbook with standard operating procedures and visual aids to assist drivers on how to do their job safely
  • Audit and create a database for required inspections of bulk hazardous material tankers
  • Partner with EHS Representative on taking over current Fleet safety functions.
  • Work with branches to develop a visual guide to what their vehicles can haul gross and by axle
  • Train and support branches with hours-of-service compliance
  • Provide training to support operations with oversized and overweight loads
  • Provide training on compliance as it relates to proper hazardous material placarding of fleet
  • Coordinate/conduct training for proper vehicle loading, cargo securement, and axel weight compliance
  • Develop action plan at the branch level for repairs and maintenance, vehicle inspections, proper permit books and PPE gear
