Job description
The mission of the New York Police Department is to enhance the quality of life in our City by working in partnership with the community to enforce the law, preserve peace, protect the people, reduce fear, and maintain order. The NYPD strives to foster a safe city by incorporating Neighborhood Policing into all facets of Department operations, and solve the problems that create crime and disorder through an interdependent relationship between people and its police, and by pioneering strategic innovation.

The Information Technology Services Division (ITSD) supports the Department by acquiring, distributing, installing and maintaining Local Area Networks, personal computers, mainframe computers, software, and data communications networks. ITSD also plans and coordinates the implementation of advanced technology.

  • Manage and respond to ServiceNow incident reports: review the ticket and make any necessary corrections, work ticket to resolution, reassign/escalate to the correct group when needed, in a manner that improves the response time between the opening of the ticket and IT's response to the call.
  • Install, configure, and test computer hardware/software in a network or stand-alone environment.
  • Coordinate with co-workers to assist management and users by disseminating relevant and timely information on an issue.
  • Keep supervisors aware of existing and potential issues.
  • Document procedures to implement solutions and mitigate problems.
  • Collaborate with other ITB units to resolve incidents affecting users throughout the city.
  • Provide support to users by utilizing programs such as Windows Active Directory and Remote Desktop tools to assist in troubleshooting, identifying, and resolving software/hardware-related issues. Ability to use network administration tools to troubleshoot and fix issues relating to folder access, security, workstation related issues (example, joining to the domain, security groups, printer policy, etc.)
  • Manage and coordinate with Dell, the Dell Tech Direct platform, a software platform to manage all warranty repair/exchange o NYPD Dell Equipment.
  • Assist with special projects as assigned by Executive Leadership of the Information Technology Bureau.

Minimum Qual Requirements

1. A certificate from an accredited technical school (approximately 675 hours) with a specialization in computer operations, and two years of satisfactory full-time computer operations experience, in a large-scale networked, multi- tiered, or mainframe computer environment, or two years of satisfactory data communications network experience working in a mainframe or multi-tiered computer environment; or

2. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university and three years of satisfactory full-time experience as described in "1" above; or

3. A four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent and four years of satisfactory full-time experience as described
in "1" above; or

4. A satisfactory combination of education and/or experience equivalent to "1", "2",or "3" above. However, all candidates must have at least two years of full-time experience as described in "1" above

Preferred Skills

  • Some knowledge of Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, TCP/IP and LAN/WAN
  • Windows 10, Microsoft SQL 2012/2016/2019, Windows Server 2012/2016/2019, MS Office 2010/2013/2016
  • Strong knowledge of MS Office products, specifically Excel, Access, and Word
  • Strong customer service experience and skills; courteous telephone manner.
