Job Summary : Under the direction of and in collaboration with the University Archivist, the Archivist & Digital Initiatives Librarian will support the oversight of daily activities of the University Archives and the management of its collections; and assume a lead role in developing and supporting Archives and Library-wide digital projects. This role contributes to the following: processing of incoming archival collections; provision of reference services; supervision of student workers and interns; developing and executing digital exhibits, digitization projects, and content platforms; outreach and advocacy; and Archives and Library wide planning and projects.

Essential Responsibilities

University Archives Collection Management:
Ensure the accessibility of incoming and existing collections through application of appropriate archival methods of appraisal, arrangement, description, and storage, and ensure materials' confidentiality when appropriate
Update and maintain collection management databases and produce collection guides when appropriate
Assist with the transfer, storage, and disposition of materials as part of the records management program

University Archives Reference and Outreach:
Deliver reference service to internal and external researchers
Develop exhibits that highlight Simmons University history and other themes
Assist with user outreach, instruction, and training activities
Participate in the hiring, training, and supervision of student workers
Compile and analyze statistical reports as needed

Digital Initiatives:
Develop policies and procedures concerning digital objects and metadata, establishes workflows, implements appropriate standards and best practices, and conducts quality assurance for digital collections
Identify digitization projects within the Archives, Library, and/or across campus, and prepare collections for digitization
Ensure the accessibility of unique digital material through the development of discovery and/or exhibit platforms and the application of current metadata standards
Acquire and ensure the accessibility of materials in the Simmons Digital Institutional Repository
Partner with faculty and other members of the Simmons Community to support digital humanities projects on campus

Deliver Library Services to the Simmons Community

Participate as appropriate on College-wide committees and Library standing committees and workgroups
Model and foster a strong customer service attitude among all staff
Proactively promote awareness and use of the Library's collections and services, and pursue opportunities that engage and inform the community
Assist with the production of reports and participate in the analysis of statistical data for annual reports and other assessment projects
Staff Reference Desk as needed.

Professional Development and Service

Maintain current knowledge of library resources, services and issues with strong emphasis on their application to Simmons Library
Participate in relevant professional organizations
Contribute to the profession through activities such as publications, presentations, and taking leadership roles in professional organizations

Work Schedule:
Generally Monday - Friday, 8:30am-5:00pm, with occasional nights and weekends shifts as needed. This position may be eligible for partial remote work (i.e. one day remote).

Qualifications:
Required

Master's degree from an ALA accredited program in Library & Information Science
Strong technology skills and interest in and capacity for learning and applying new technologies
Familiarity with current digital preservation best practices, digital library platforms, and cataloging standards.
Experience with archives and/or special collections
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Demonstrated ability to coordinate projects effectively
Ability to monitor and incorporate industry trends and practices into work

Preferred

Minimum of 2 years of professional experience in an academic library

Demonstrated ability to work both independently as well as part of a team

Ability to work cooperatively and collegially with students, faculty, and colleagues

Outstanding written and oral communication skills

Committed to excellent customer service

Strong analytical and organizational skills

Experience with Preservica and Omeka platforms

Experience working with a variety of metadata standards, including record creation using Dublin Core, EAD, VRACore, and MODS/METS schemas.
