The Completion Engineering Advisor reports to the Bakken Drilling and Completion Engineering Manager. The primary responsibility will be to provide well planning, design and engineering support, and daily drilling operational oversight for unconventional asset. Although office-based, there may be a requirement for travel to the well site in support of ongoing operations. The successful candidate should be self-motivated, with a clear focus on the value that effective planning and engineering can bring to the company.

  • Support for trouble free frac, coil and flowback operations, providing support for coordinating recovery plans during NPT events
  • Completions engineering support within a cross-functional asset team with functional interface into the Drilling and Completions Central asset organization
  • Detailed completions design, engineering and drilling procedure generation for technology and new well design projects. Utilize innovation and new technologies to improve well delivery, reliability, and value
  • Prepare time and cost estimates in accordance with Hess standards
  • Completion equipment selection, qualification, and testing
  • Thorough identification of risks and mitigating controls for all recommended procedures - includes risk assessments, MOCs, and ensuring alignment with corporate, regulatory, and asset standards
  • Ensuring compliance with Hess standards and applicable legislation and regulations
  • Performance tracking (actual vs. planned) and driving continuous improvement in well cycle time and cost.
  • Post well close out and reporting including capture of lessons learned and best practice.
  • Mentor planning engineers, performance engineers, and assist in directing coaching engineers in wellsite supervisor roles, as applicable
  • Engage well construction SME(s) and service partners to ensure well design integrity/feasibility
  • Actively participate in and contribute to Hess engineering networks and industry committees



  • Minimum of 13 years of completion engineering experience with demonstrated technical ability and a proven record of delivering wells
  • Onshore North America completion engineering design, planning, and operations experience
  • Commitment to the health and safety of our workforce and the environment.
  • Experience analysing problems and identifying practical solutions
  • Communication: Ability to deliver and facilitate technical presentations and documentation
  • Ability to work in a collaborative environment and communicate effectively and constructively with other technical functions, field personnel, and service partners at all levels
  • Self-starter with a hard-working approach and can-do attitude – motivated and resourceful individual
  • Strong desire to deliver technical excellence commensurate with business needs
  • Experience with Landmark well design and planning software suite including WellCat
  • Exploration, Appraisal and Development Completions experience
  • Well Site operations Experience
  • Offshore Completions experience


  • Mobile, willing to relocate and work in other places in the US and globally
  • Experience with extended reach laterals, plug and perf completions, multi-lateral completion systems, re-fracs, remote operations, gas lift
